Our goal is to encourage social events among open minded people of the idealist personality. This "temperament" corresponds to the 4 NF (iNtuitive Feeling) Myers Briggs types: INFP, ENFP, INFJ & ENFJ (link to take the test below). Others can join if they are interested in different personality types and as long as they have the patience and interest in other people to meet up for in depth socializing in small to medium sized groups.
In my experience, folks of the less common MB types often gain comfort in finding out they are not alone and meetups with individuals of compatible types tend to have a natural conversational ease and flow. While differences are also important, I think NFs are frequently in situations where they feel "different" and events with individuals of a similar type can be special. I liked this short summary of the idealist/NF type:
As the identity-seeking temperament, Idealists long for meaningful communication and relationships. They search for profound truths hidden beneath the surface, often expressing themselves in metaphor. Focused on the future, they are enthusiastic about possibilities, and they continually strive for self-renewal and personal growth. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Idealist_temperament, ~10% of population)
Our aim is to get people together who are genuinely interested in getting to know one another for events of mutual interest. This is an open group and anyone can post any event of a legal nature of their chosing (if you have a problem posting email me, Ron)
I am not a stickler for too many specific rules, but I do believe that if you sign up for an event you should go to it and careless disregard for this standard will definitely cause me concern. A reasonable explanation may suffice for the first time and perhaps a more extreme explanation -- like my car ran out of gas on the freeway -- might work for the second. A third, I don't know. Do you want to meet up occasionally? Are you President Obama's press secretary??? If you are signing up for an event and are uncertain of your schedule, it's a good idea to provide some information in advance in the comments or to the organizer to keep up your good standing :-).
If you have gotten this far you may be a good candidate for this group ;-). If you do not know what your type is you can go here to take a quick test:
