IoT and transport

How the Internet of Things enables new solutions in transport.

Felix Krüger of Daimler Fleetboard, and Andreas Brenner will show how Brenner, a family owned wood logistics firm, uses Fleetboard to evaluate 400+ data points for each of their 80+ trucks, multiple times per day, to improve fleet efficiency and driver motivation.

Fabian Weber will present Park It, a Zürich startup connecting private parking spaces to the Internet through a simple app, enabling other users to rent them for a short time, right on the spot.

Boris Danne from AutoScout24 Munich will show how they leverage OBD-2, a widely deployed car maintenance standard interface, to enable the connected car for everybody, including end-user apps and developer APIs.

Your car is about to go open source

Automakers want to standardize on a Linux-based OS that would make vehicle infotainment systems act more like smartphones

There's unfortunately a big gap between "want to" and "will". So let's hope for the best :)

I liked the first presentation the most. It was interesting to see how the ecological impact of trucks can be lowered by educating the drivers. The main thing was that monitoring should not lead to punishment but to rewarding canny drivers.

The story about the reaction of the drivers was also most interessting to me. Shows that the human factor is most important...

Yes indeed. In this case the software is only as good as its user. Drawing from experience in other departments, I think this can be used as a rule of thumb: People have to understand how it helps them to adopt a new technology before they a develop a genuine interest.

Sorry for my late confirmation. I was not sure if I'd be here on October 8. I hope there's still a chair for me....

Is it going to be in German, or English? Ich spreche einbissen Deutsch.... so if it is in German, may be a bit tough for me
