The Hobbit

Join us for an IAF movie meetup to see The Hobbit. We will meet at 5:15 in the Wynnsong 16 lobby. Those who want to see the movie in standard format will attend the 6 p.m. show, while those who want to see the movie in 3D will attend the 6:30 p.m. show.  (I preordered my tickets for the 6 p.m. show on Fandango.)

I just realized that I've signed up to see the Hobbit with two groups, but I only want to see the thing once. Therefor I've decided to join the other gathering because I RSVP'ed them first, it is a larger gathering, and they going a day earlier. Sorry all. I'm afraid I need to bow out.

For the 2D showing, Wynnsong is fine, but if you're going to see the movie in 3D, I HIGHLY, HIGHLY recommend going over to Century Theaters at Jordan Creek instead. Jordan Creek is one of only two theaters in Iowa (the other is in Davenport) that have the 48fps projectors required to show the 3D in the native speed it was filmed in. If you watch 3D in another theater, the film will be downgraded to 24fps, so you will have degraded picture quality as well as increased likelihood of the standard problems with 3D movies - headaches, motion sickness, etc. 48fps was designed precisely to combat these issues.

Under most circumstances the theater would hardly matter, but for The Hobbit, you really, really should take advantage of the 10-minute drive to Jordan Creek to see it with new technology the film was designed from day 1 to take advantage of.
