Dan, Shannon & everyone-----well, I'm a little red-faced here because I thought I was replying only to my friend who forwarded this to me and it turned out it went to everyone on the meetup list.  Since that happened, I'll just address a couple of things.

 

First of all Shannon, I thought your email was extremely creative.  I don't know what MLM guru wrote it, but it hit a zenith in creativity.   Although it doesn't align with my values concerning transparency, because, for example, your distribution of Mannatech vitamins does not require that you have a vendor list, I just wish I had half as much marketing genius.  And good luck at getting your networking group together.  It is challenging to find networking groups that are open to MLM product sellers and running your own means you will always be in it.   I've been in more than one networking group that welcomed everyone at first, then reached critical membership numbers, then voted MLMers out.  So I hope yours is a huge success and I hope selling Mannatech makes you as much money as the Walmart CEO rather than the Walmart cashier.  

 

What I recommend if you want to emulate the CEO rather than the cashier, is that you hook up with one of the many sources of vitamins and supplements and private label your own inventory and sell it, so you really are a CEO, you'll need a vendo list, and everyone will want to be on it.  I know people who have done that with many different types of products and make a lot of money doing it.     I would give that advice to anyone selling MLM products.  You already pay for product, you already pay for marketing pieces.  Chances are you are working a lot harder beating your heads against the wall to sell some product, than the CEO of your company is.  He/she is probably out on their yacht down in the Bahamas, drinking pina coladas that they're paying for from your sales.  

 

Speaking for myself, I value transparency, & knowing when someone is inviting me to an MLM meeting. Taking your valuable time when I am not a candidate for that and never will be, is a disservice to you.      And because time is such a valuable commodity, and I have so little to spare, it is also a disservice to me to head off to something that is an MLM presentation when I would have chosen something entirely different or more productive for myself.   Regarding your Walmart analogy,  when I go to Walmart, I know specifically why I'm going there, I didn't have to be tricked into going, and the cashier doesn't try to sell me more stuff than I went there for, or impose upon me to try to find lots of other Walmart cashiers so they can make overrides. 

 

I understand that selling is hard and that you face quite a few more challenges with the type of sales you're undertaking.  I get that.  As a business broker,  I'm involved in selling the highest ticket items a person will ever buy or sell and because of that, they get totally stressed out multiple times along the way to closing a deal.  So it is difficult for all parties, including me.  But I'm used to all facts totally being on the table, no matter how good, or how detrimental and everyone still wondering what they heck they might have missed, so I come from that vantage point.   

 

I hope you will seriously look at my proposal to private label your own products so you can be the schmuck with the yacht instead of the schmuck whose yacht you are helping pay for.  This is a serious strategy and costs a lot less than you think it will.  I would personally offer you some free assistance to check out that avenue if you wanted to do it.  I will even be your first customer.
