Our mission is to raise awareness of the mechanics and latest science behind Global Warming within the local community and to attack it from four aspects:

1. Alternative Energy: the most viable sources in Orange County would be implementation of solar panels, thermal solar plants, wind turbines on a small scale, wind energy on a large scale.

2. Transportation: electric/extended range electric vehicles (e.g. Fisker Automotive [http://karma.fiskerautomotive.com/] is headquartered here in Irvine); public electric charging stations such as those to be implemented in Santa Monica; public transportion (there is a significant funding resource available through the new stimulus package and other Federal and state legislation).
Projects and Portals:
[*]The Anaheim Fixed-Guideway Project [http://www.anaheimfixedguideway.com/] is a system where transit vehicles operate on a dedicated alignment, such as a rail or track. There are a variety of fixed-guideway technologies that could operate on this type of alignment, such as monorail, automatic people mover, streetcar or BRT.
[*]California Transportation Plan 2035 [http://www.californiatransportationplan2035.org/]
Caltrans has developed a web portal to connect with transportation users throughout the State - from San Diego to Yreka and everywhere in between. The portal is intended to be a dynamic, educational tool that highlights California's critical transportation issues and gives people an opportunity to tell CalTrans what our thoughts about transportation in California.

3. Green Building: Encourage green building retrofits and new construction. Raise awareness of public, business and policy makers of the extraordinary cost savings that can be realized by building green. A local group who is very strong in this area is the US Green Building Council Orange County Chapter, ("USGBC-OC") [http://www.usgbc-oc.org/]

4. Conservation/Recycling: Recycling center awareness and encouragement (e.g. Irvine has a great recycling program, but I see only about half of the households in my neighborhood on trash day putting their gray-topped recycling bins outside for pickup, yet everybody has a blue-topped trash bin outside for pickup. Water conservation: this ties in very strongly with Global Warming in many ways.

We always welcome new ideas and enjoy discussing strategies to fight Global Warming/Climate Destabilization. Come educate and be educated. Share your opinions and thoughts.

What members are saying

So called 'global warming' is just a secret ploy by wacko tree-huggers to make America energy independent, clean our air and water, improve the fuel efficiency of our vehicles, kick-start ...

Daniel

Others should join this group because you really do learn a lot about the environment, what all is being done LOCALLY, and how you can help. ...
