Sunday, June 22 ok with me - any time.

Would Sunday afternoon this month work for those who plan to attend? I know "Rami Kuttaineh" would like to come they say they can not do Saturdays... willing to try Sunday if the rest of you are OK with it? We left where we were going to meet open last meet... open to suggestions....

If third Sunday would work for both you and Marilyn I will set it for then... Marilyn will that work for you?

Sun., June 22 is fine with me. Are we still at 2:00?

I have another commitment for one sunday per month that goes from 12 noon to about 4 pm. The problem is that the sunday is not regular - it could be the first, second, or third sunday of the month. It is up to when the organizer wants to hold it.

Fortunately, the other commitment meets in Winter Park so it is relatively close to Colonial/Mills so that works.

You can schedule the group for 3 PM on whatever sunday and if I can make it, I will. If the sunday conflicts, I can make it a little later - around 4 rather than 3 PM.

We had thought that immigrant could be the topic for next month. Unless to want to continue taxes or do both?

Any Saturday except the 1st of the month would be fine with me.

If third Sunday would work for both you and Marilyn I will set it for then... Marilyn will that work for you? Also will set "immigrant/immigration" for net month then... I did to cover this wage and tax topic but I am the one who missed the meet so not really fair to force you guys to re hash given that fact

The three of us had an interesting discussion.

I thought that a flat tax system of 25% after a standard deduction of $15,000 (based on $7.25 for 40 hours per week for 52 years) for the number of taxpayers & dependents in an household would be a good alternative to raising the minimum wage. Also, the first $15K in wages could be FICA free rather than the 7.4%. The FICA 7.4% rate after the 1st $15,000, would be applied to all income levels with no maximum limit. In return, all tax deductions would be eliminated - except maybe for the mortage interest deduction up to $15,000. My thinking was that people earning the current minimum wage should not be taxed (federally) at all. It was commented that the savings in taxes under this proposal would still not offset the $2.75 increase in the minimum hourly wage - although I have not done the before and after tax calculations to confirm.

More coming as I exceeded the 1,000 character limit.

I was going to talk about this. The first two weekends of July are no good for me. The end of June through the beginning of July are going to be extremely busy for me.

    • Marilyn

Please see my comment on the NIT; this is what we discussed.

Marilyn's proposal was a negative income tax up to just below the poverty level - which comes out close to the $15,000 level that I had. Then, most but not all of the subsidy programs would be eliminated and everybody has to file a tax return, whether they had taxable income or not, to receive a negative tax refund.

We then discussed adding the negative income tax to my proposal where even if you are not working, you would receive a tax refund.

We were all interested in what you would come up with.

We all agreed that in reality, due to the current nature of our political system and politicians, nothing on revising the tax structure would happen any time soon. The suggested next topic for discussion in June is immigration and immigration law reform.

My proposal was negative income tax to just below the poverty level IN INDIVIDUAL AREAS and then graduated up to a certain level -- either graduated or as Social Security does it ($1.00 reduction for every $3.00 earned).

      May 10, 2014

    • Marilyn

By individual areas I mean that it costs more to live in San Francisco than it does in Orlando and this national poverty level (and other national levels) are nuts.

OK I can not be there... basically unhallowed screwed me and I need to drop every thing and Un load now..... pissed as $%%&&.. but nothing I can do.... hope no one is inconvianiananced.... I am sorry

    May 10, 2014

    • Marilyn

Sorry you couldn't make it, Russ! What does, "...basically unhallowed screwed me..." mean?

      May 10, 2014

    • Russ

Marilyn... did you all meet any ways and cover the topic or just shift back because of no shows? Was typing on a phone: u-haul screwed me. I was supposed to have 24 hours access so was going to head over to the meet and then finish unloading the truck tonight... when we got there they told us closed at X time and basically would not have time to unload unless we did it that sec.

I am running behind hope every one gets this message time change to 3PM... hope that is OK

What do you think of Milton Friedman's Negative Income Tax idea and a conversation of the existing EITC to a more generous Friedman style NIT, thus incentivizing while achieving something closer to basic income? Erik Brynjolfsson discusses this in his recent work "The Second Machine Age"

    May 8, 2014

    • Russ

One of many ideas worth exploring .... Just because some one else brought it up all ready do not change that.

      May 8, 2014

    • Marilyn

I know. I was just joking about it. :)

      May 9, 2014

  • Marilyn

This has been changed to 1:15 in May. Are they all going to be changed from 2:00 to 1:15 or just this one?

    April 12, 2014

    • Russ

      missed that.... fixing it now

      April 14, 2014

  • J. Y.

Let's reschedule the min wat & tax restructuring discussion to May.

    April 12, 2014

  • J. Y.

With just two, maybe we should reschedule the topic for next month?

    April 12, 2014

  • Marilyn

I'm sorry I had to cancel; my husband's in the hospital again.

    April 11, 2014

  • J. Y.

If the day has been changed to Sunday, I can go.

On Saturday, I have a conflict. Any restaurant is ok with me.

    April 8, 2014

  • Marilyn

Isn't this supposed to be April 12? That's the second Saturday.

    March 30, 2014

    • Russ

..Also do we know where we want to eat? I think this month is my fault: between posting no place, and mistakenly setting the wrong day screwed every one up

      April 8, 2014

    • Marilyn

I doubt the problem is the topic, Russ; but you could ask. Of course, Cookie might well show up; we can't count on that, though, unless he says so beforehand. We can move it to this Sunday. Either of the last two Vietnamese restaurants we were in is fine with me; the two that are next door to each other. The seating in Little Saigon can be a problem although I don't mind going there.

      April 8, 2014

  • J. Y.

I also think it is the 2nd saturday because I have a conflict with the 1st saturdays of the month.

    March 30, 2014

    • Russ

Will Sunday the 13th work for you? Just trying to see if we can work with our left out member?

Ok we will see what the other regulars vote for... Want their feedback instead of dictating unilateral choices...
