Thark – at Park Theatre

“London, 1927. Things are not going well for Hector Benbow. His secret liaison with a shop girl is scuppered by his wife’s early arrival home. What’s more, there are reports that Thark – the family home – is haunted. Hector, his plucky nephew Ronny, and the rest of the family set out to the house to prove the rumours wrong. But Thark promises to live up to its spine-chilling reputation...

“A rip-roaring revival of the rarely-seen Aldwych Farce, re-imagined for Park200.

“One of Ben Travers’ most celebrated Aldwych Farces is presented in a new adaptation by writer/actor Clive Francis. Directed by Eleanor Rhode, whose previous sell-out successes include A Life and the Time Out Critics’ Choice productions of The Drawer Boy and Generous.” – from the Park Theatre website

The production has been well received by critics:

“Ben Travers’s joyous farce creates an alternative universe in which panic lurks just below an innocent surface.” ★★★★ – The Guardian

“A classic piece of blissful tomfoolery” – The Independent

★★★★ The Daily Telegraph

★★★★ The Times

After an initial phase when I took prepayments for group seats, this option has now ended, so if you would like to join us you will need to book direct with the theatre. If you’re open to sitting next to another member, feel free to mention your seat number (and whether stalls or circle) in the comments below, for group members who might want to book a neighbouring seat.

Please contribute £1 on arrival (to help defray the approx. £100 per annum that Meetup charges to run a group) – thanks in advance.

We will have drinks in the theatre cafe-bar after the play, for anyone who would like to stay on afterward to meet and chat with other members.

Just spotted this article about farce which Thark attendees might find of particular interest:

A41 & A42 booked for herself and meself. We've seen a number of outstanding plays here since Park opened, Daytona, of course, the pick - with a wonderful performance from Maureen Lipmann. The King's Head, down the road, should be mentioned here too - in an Islington/Haxkney context. What a privilege to get to see a staging of Thornton Wilder's "Our Town" ! And all this theatre on the doorstep - at a fraction of West End prices.
