The Boy Who Cried – at the Hope Theatre

lunacy. late 13c. Affected with periodic insanity, dependent on the changes of the moon, from Old French lunatique, lunage ‘insane,’ or directly from Late Latin lunaticus ‘moon-struck’.”

“A central moon dominates an almost-the-same, nearly familiar world. A young girl has gone missing last night, believed murdered. Everyone knows werewolves lurk behind every front door. It is the duty of the State to have them hunted down, tortured and then terminated. Here there are no police officers, only Protection Officers.

“Sam Elvin has been locked in his room for days, and in his mental turmoil for years. Apart from last night – when he didn’t come home. What choice does his anxious mother to have but to call in the services of the Protection Officer?

“Rough Haired Pointer presents a world premiere of Matthew Osman’s The Boy Who Cried. The play is a brilliantly surreal depiction of a world where prejudice has run riot. Sam Elvin’s longings appeal to the all-too-human urge to let one’s hair down, to once a month hunt the things you cannot hunt the other 29 days. It raises the question – would it be preferable to have certain sorts safely out of sight, out of their minds?” – from the King’s Head and Hope Theatre website

The ticket price is £10. The performance is now sold out, and unfortunately no more RSVPs can be accepted.

For those who have tickets, our seats will be reserved for us in a block by the theatre manager on the day. All other seats are unallocated.

Please contribute £1 on arrival (to help defray the approx. £100 per annum that Meetup charges to run a group) – thanks in advance.

We will stay on for drinks after the performance at The Four Sisters (just across the street from the theatre) – please let me know if you will join us, because I’ll need to include you in the booking.

In the days immediately prior, I’ll circulate details of arrangements to meet before the performance.

A flawed and overlong script, but the play was brightened by some clever wordplay and several very good performances.

If you would like to stay on for a drink and chat after the play, please let me know by direct message or in the comments. If I don't hear from anyone, I will cancel the table booking I've made at the Four Sisters across the street from the theatre.

There are now only two tickets remaining for the performance on Friday. There are four people who have expressed interest in those tickets but haven't yet purchased. I've sent details to everyone about payment arrangements - however as you can see there aren't enough tickets for everyone. I expect that all tickets will sell - so if you would like to join us on Friday, you will need to buy your ticket as soon as possible.

      February 20, 2014

    • Jane

Hi Jessica and Winnie, there are five tickets being held aside for our group. I've just sent you each a message about the arrangements to buy a ticket. Please let me know if you don't receive the message.

I've now bought tickets for the 7 who have paid: myself, Gabriela, Sean Robbins, Gail, Melanie, Sophia + 1. As you're all prepaid, and through this theatre group, the theatre has agreed to reserve a block of good seats for us. I'll be in the theatre at least 15 minutes before the play begins, so we can go in together and take our reserved seats. I'll send out more details, including my phone number, closer to the date.
