“Desdemona's fate hinges on the location of a handkerchief...
“In this hilarious and occasionally heartbreaking re-imagining of Shakespeare’s classic play, playwright Paula Vogel exposes a very different side to Othello’s wife: a volatile and passionate young woman who revels in bawdy tales of conquest – much to the chagrin of her long suffering maid, Emilia, and the entertainment of local prostitute, Bianca.
“Against the backdrop of a misogynistic sixteenth century world, Desdemona: a play about a handkerchief tells the wild but timeless tale of three very different women – who form an unlikely friendship fighting against the roles in which society has placed them.
“Paula Vogel was awarded the Pulitzer Prize for her play How I Learned to Drive, and an Obie Award for The Baltimore Waltz. Her plays have been performed on Broadway and across the world.” – from the Park Theatre website
“Desdemona is a deliciously demented version of the Moor’s Tale” – Wall Street Journal
What the critics say about Big Bear Theatre Company:
“A near perfect show… definitely a company to watch” – The Stage

Seats are unallocated, so please make your own booking direct with the theatre.
As the performance is on a Tuesday, seats are £12 rather than £19.50 for those living in the N postcode area of London (i.e. N1–N22). If you take up this discounted ticket price, you will need to produce evidence of your home address for the box office – they’ve advised me that a recent utility bill will suffice. (They have said that the reference to N4 only on their systems is outdated; you can confirm this with the box office also.)
Please contribute £1 on arrival (to help defray the approx. £100 per annum that Meetup charges to run a group) – thanks in advance.
In the days immediately prior, I’ll circulate details of arrangements to meet before the performance. We will have drinks in the theatre cafe-bar afterwards, for anyone who would like to stay on afterward for a conversation about the play.
