On Religion - at the Bridewell Theatre (and Q&A with A C Grayling)

“Grace, a professor of natural science who has no god in her life and is fiercely intolerant of those who do, is confronted by her barrister son Tom, who abandons the law to pursue his faith.... At heart, On Religion is a family drama that looks at how much, if at all, we are willing to compromise our own deeply felt beliefs for those we love and hold most dear.

“Informed by conversations with leading philosophers, theologians and scientists including Professor Richard Dawkins, Rev Dr Giles Fraser, Professor John Gray, Baroness Julia Neuberger, Archbishop Rowan Williams and Tariq Ramadan, this play explores faith and religion through a human, moving and theatrically cinematic story.

"’... plunges into basic questions about what it means to be human and the appalling and glorious messiness of being alive ... a reminder that both fundamentalism and love come in many hues.’ – the Guardian”

– from the Tower Theatre website

The performance will be attended by A C Grayling, the eminent philosopher, as co-playwright of On Religion. Following the performance, Professor Grayling will take part in a Q&A session with the audience.

Just what I like from the theatre - a complex, intelligent and thought-provoking drama with emotional depth and powerful and memorable scenes which leave you feeling a better human being and in this case a better humanist. Grayling's talk at the end was excellent - what a great thinker.

Great acting but I'd like more drama in my drama. Really enjoyed Mr AC at the end, though.

Production and performances were excellent, but I've decided that my plays should be plays and my discussions should be discussions. This was an interesting discussion of belief and non-belief but the dramatic elements seemed contrived.

Interesting but rather stilted play raising many interesting points on religion with a helpful interview with Prof Grayling at the end when he answered questions well.

    Hi Ann,
Just got my ticket. Also forgot to say when I replied that I'd like to join you for drinks after the show (presumably after the Q&A). Lee

Great! Will try to reserve an area in the bar and signpost it for our group. It's a small-ish bar however (as these theatre ones tend to be) but guaranteed to be lively, which is always nice!

Hi Ann, forgot to say when I RSVPD that I'd like to join you for drinks after the show. Does anyone also wish to meet up for a pre-theatre drink?

Hi all -- Looking forward to meeting you at this great event - I'm a big AC Grayling fan (check out his Desert Island discs episode, you can't NOT like him after that) so should be a special night. Because of this though, I urge you to purchase tix as soon as you can, it's a small-ish theatre and am worried it might sell out! x

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
