The idea is simple – just getting together a few people interested in seeing plays and other theatrical performances, and independent / interesting films, in Islington and Hackney (and, once in a while, sneaky jaunts further afield). You don’t need to be local – we have people from near and far. For each outing there will be plans to have something to eat or drink beforehand or afterward – please join in. Key places are:

• theatres – the Almeida, the Arcola, Park Theatre, the King’s Head, the Hope, the Barbican, the Old Red Lion, the Rosemary Branch, the Hen & Chickens, the Pleasance
• cinemas – the Rio, the Barbican, the Hackney Picturehouse, Rich Mix

Numbers really count in this group, because it’s large but I keep event sizes small and friendly. This works by having members commit to turning up when they RSVP, and not coming unless they’re RSVPed. This group doesn't do casual drop-outs and drop-ins (though last-minute RSVPs are always welcome). There is no requirement to attend any particular number of events with the group, or to pay anything to join.

So when you join this group an RSVP is a promise to turn up, and joining is a promise not to attend an event that you aren’t RSVPed for. In this group, please don’t RSVP unless you have bought your ticket (or are in the process of buying one via me) and will definitely be coming as well as staying for the social part of the event.

"Really enjoyed the film which as Alice says was warm and a celebration of being human without the vile mawkishness that usually accompanies that description. Thanks so much to Jane."

"Loved this film l! Very humanistic and warm. The portrayal of mean, controlling men in the life of a good woman reminded me of Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore. Their control was exhibited through their attempts to discipline her children...."

"Thanks for organising, Jane! Interesting script but agree with the others, the production was a bit amateur and the acting wooden at times. Enjoyed it anyway."

"I agree with Richard: very nice idea, well developed, worth seeing, at times really came together... but at other times the script was clunky, uncertain whether it wanted to be realist or something else. And that made acting it difficult, I think...."
