  • This location is shown only to members

The first of a monthly series of seminars that will expose the Israeli Hi Tech industry to the needs, potential, players, and investors in this booming space of Smart Grid and Energy Efficiency.

This seminar will provide a review of the Smart Energy space, its relevancy to the Hi Tech industry, and the potential in term of markets and investments.

Speakers include:

  • Amos Lasker, Former CEO of IEC, and the Chairman of the ISEA
  • Dr. Yehuda Niv, Commissioner, Electricity Administration at the Ministry of Energy
  • Elad Shaviv, CEO of ISEA
  • Eitan Glazer, Energy & Cleantech practice leader, PwC
  • Itamar Riftin, Business Development, PwC

”The revolution in information technologies that has transformed other high-tech industries (such as desktop computing, enterprise networking, wireless and wireline telecommunications) has yet to transform the electric power business, arguably one of the farthest-reaching and most extensive “networks” in existence. The Smart Grid, in large part, sits at the intersection of energy, IT and telecommunications markets. Based on initial research, roughly 70 percent of executives at Smart Grid startups have backgrounds in wireless communications and/or IT hardware/software. A significant sign that many of the “smarts” in the Smart Grid are transitioning from different industries."

Hi Karine, thanks for the notice about the Webinar relating to OG&E's smart grid success story. However, when I try clicking on the link to register, it takes me to the gotomeeting page, and the message appears: The webinar is not available. Would you be able to provide an alternative method for accessing this webinar? Many thanks, Yossi

Overall, interesting. The speakers were high level. I would have liked to hear more about Asher's research because he touches on the crux of the issue.

As I have been saying for years, though (even when I was with government) - the issue is not mainlyin the energy sector (although a clearly articulated policy encouraging distributed energy would be helpful) - the problem lies for the most part in the real estate market structure - from planning to methodologies of land allocation and sale and the mind-set of the real estate developer who wants to buy land, build sell and get out. Only when the DEVELOPERS understand that neighborhoods are sources of income "for life" will this happen.

    Hey Jacob,
    That's a good question... :)
    Checkout this TED video... http://www.ted.com/talks/justin_hall_tipping_freeing_energy_from_the_grid.html

It talks about a few other things as well, but it shows a way to create a world without power grids. :)

Saw the film - thanks for bringing it to our attention. I am not sure I saw the transmission he was talking about, but there was definitely a case for "eigen"-generation and use. The infra-red/electron transfer is clearly not trivial and I assume there is lots of work to be done to make it comfortable for human night use (what I saw was the equivalent of walking around with night goggles as opposed to walking into a pleasantly lit room). So there is science and there will be development - but the question is - what do we do tomorrow?

Alex, that was a great TED presentation. Thanks for the link. It's refreshing and very hopeful to know that there are folks like that in the world solving these types of problems.

In the future, will we still have electric power lines crisscrossing our cities and neighborhoods? Is wireless power supply possible?
