A Taste of The Upper Gallil -- Dalton Winery with the Israeli Wine Lovers Club

Dalton Winery, established in 1995, is a young Upper Gallil winery that has been producing some great white and red wines. The owners chose the location for its terroir, to provide employment for the nearby residents and to bring tourists to the region. They exceeded their expectations. Today Dalton is guided by its proprietor Alex Haruni and winemaker Naama Mualem (one of few female winemakers in Israel). We are lucky to have Alex presenting a selection of Dalton wines. We got the wines for the Dalton tasting and I am so excited -- a short vertical (Reserve Merlot 2005 and 2006) and two wines currently unavailable in the US (they don't even have official names). Also, Eran (a Chef and a member of our Panel) is going to cater the food again.... So, be prepared for a real treat before Rosh Hashana

Dalton wines are reflection of the winemaker's and the grape growers' love for the grapes and the land. It is one of a handful wineries in the Upper Galil, which has become a superb winegrowing area. Alex Haruni, Dalton's owner, is passionate about wines and in particular Israeli wines, and loves to share his enormous knowledge with receptive ears. So, we had great fun. Alex also indulged us with 2 prerelease wines that no one outside the Winery had tasted. These wines are great and we cannot wait to be able to obtain them.
What has become the norm, was the great cheese selection assembled by Eran, and it shows with fewer and fewer leftovers ;) Alex initially thought that the venue was "unorthodox", but by the end of the evening was impressed with the open form and the honest appraisals not only from Raffi and Gary, but from the members as well. As usual, Raffi and Gary each lent their expertise in guiding the members throughout the evening. I had a great time!!

This was my first event and I had no idea what to expect. I found the other members warm and friendly.
The wine tasting was an extremely informative event, Alex did a spectacular job in describing the wine process and the tastes of the different vintages. The addition of the "panel" added to the event with descriptions of foods to go with the various wines.
I am ready for the next event!
