Well, yes of course, Thursday is good for me.

Marina, I have an Or Co library card too. But Everyone still has to pay fees to reserve/use an Or Co Lib meeting room. It's wonderful that the Sem Co library offers them free. I'll admit 8:p.m. is a little early for closing. But if other folks can suggest a similar arrangement (Free places for evening lessons) - we can search more.
So far we have 2 Yes's for Thurs nites: Fran and Paolo. Others?

I'm out if it's on Thursdays - have to work. Perhaps there'll be another one later.

    Thur 3-31
I checked today on the main website for Or Co Library and its branches. Fees are required to meet. So the Seminole Co Library is amazing to offer a Free meeting room.
That's about 15 min drive for me, well within an acceptable range. How about others?
You mentioned only avail nite was Thurs... til 8:p.m. I could meet from 6:30-8:p.m. on that nite. If we can get 6-10 others and Paolo can teach then, it could be OK.
I'm good for attending. How many others?

Here is the address of the Seminole Library: 215 N. Oxford Road, Casselberry, Florida 32707, Tel:[masked]
Actually it's off 436. I realize this might not be convenient for all, however, it is not easy to find a free venue. I'll continue looking.

Sounds promising. Where is the Seminole County library?
Meeting at outside tables at Borders might be OK. As long as we didn't have more than... what? 7 people? Is it effected by rain, cold, heat? I've never met there so am unfamiliar with the outdoor meeting arrangments. Or how easy it is to get seating. Annette, how'd the French club do that?
I'll try to call the Orange County main library downtown, and other branches tmo.

Tomorrow I will talk to the people in Paneras and Barnes & Noble.

The library closes at 8:00 PM every night, the only night that would be available is Thursday from 6 to 8. Someone who lives in Orange County will have to check the Orange County Library, as libraries in Florida are not unified.

I am familiar with this particular Borders, and have met there with a group of 7 people without a problem, of course, this is on a first come basis. I investigated a little, and there are no free venues; with the exception of some libraries; I called my library, Seminole County, which has a few conference rooms available free, however, the person that fills out the application must have a library card for that library, and be a Seminole County resident, I do and I am, so that is no problem.

My French club used to meet at this Borders...but they met outside because there is outside seating. It was just a suggestion.

In-store coffee-cafe areas aren't conducive to lessons due to customer traffic/children and small amt of avail tables. Any ideas or input on other places? Churches? Private Schools?

Paolo was open to dates/times. He's retired, lives in the Winter Springs area. I've called 3 places today, none have Free meeting rooms. Waiting on 1 more call back. I believe Rosemarie was going to check with Borders, but if they're like Barnes and Noble have no rooms.

Sorry, I was not able to make the meeting. From the discussion here it sounds like it went pretty well. Fran, it is great that Paolo has agreed to teach. I would like to suggest Border's at 600 North Orlando in Winter Park. It also might be a good idea to find out what day or days is best for Paolo.

Just to put in my opinion: I work Tuesday evenings, but am available on Monday nights and I'd love to participate. Also, I'm happy to drive. I live in Eustis, so as far north as others are comfortable going would be nice.

The next meeting date was left open with our main priority now being the search for a location.
Paolo has graciously agreed to teach for Free until he leaves the country in Sept.
Let's all put our thinking caps on, and perhaps even make some exploratory calls.

We ruled out restaurants b/c with the serving of food, lingering and extra time use of tables, we felt most places would prefer to have just eat-in diners, plus it would be hard to spread out books, papers, etc. Any other ideas are welcome.

Sometimes churches will offer the use of a room, and if anyone knows of one that will, please let us know.
we're looking at locations in the Colonial Plaza/W.Pk/436 area. Those are within 15-25 mins drive from the attendees at the Informal Meeting and were acceptable.

    March 30, 2011

  • Fran W.

Rosemarie and I are going to search for *free* locations at places such as library branches (W.P. charges 2 hour min, bit pricey rates)... We'll ask at Barnes & Noble (E. Colonial), Borders (W.P. Village), etc...

    March 30, 2011

  • Fran W.

At last evening's W.P. Library meeting we had 5 in attendance: Fran, Paolo, Marina, Rosemarie, Craig.
The consensus seemed to be for evening lessons v/s daytimes due to jobs. Mon or Tues evenings being preferable.
