Winner of the Italian Oscar, Nominated for an Academy Award,  winner of the Cannes Film Festival’s Golden Palm, and the only film to get a 100% film critic rating. “ The Leopard”, taken from a novel written by a Sicilian Prince Giuseppe Tomasi di Lampedusa , is considered one of the most important novels in modern Italian literature.

This award winning film, directed by the great Italian director, Luchino Visconti stars Burt Lancaster, Claudia Cardinale and Alain Delon is one of the most beautiful epics ever filmed.

The film takes place at the time when Giuseppe Garibaldi, the hero of Italian unification, swept through Sicily.  The aristocratic Salina family headed by Prince Fabrizio, a 19th century nobleman whose position is eroded by newly moneyed peasants.  Beautiful cinematography paints a picture of lavish villas, opulence and a fairy tale existence.

This was a movie for the extreme history buff...I believe it showed why social change was so desperately needed. As with many Italian films, the photography was amazing.
