Italy is a diverse country with regional variations in language, food....and music.
For the music intellectual (or aficionado of the folk tradition) we will listen to (and learn about) samples of historical Italian Folk Songs from throughout Italy, and compare them to the modern traditional Neapolitan songs known throughout the world as typical "Italian music."
We will take a look at the findings of Musicologist and Researcher Alan Lomax who brought together these folk music recordings in the 1950s. One of his objectives in these studies was to learn more about how and why distinctive folk song styles develop.
Also, the origins and meaning of "L'Opera."
Al will sing a couple of famous Italo-American songs in the traditional Neopolitan style - made famous by Dean Martin, Jimmy Roselli and Jerry Vale.
Espresso, tea & coffee to be served by your hosts (Al & Maria). You are welcome (read - encouraged) to bring a desert for yourself and another to share, so we can all have DOUBLE deserts!
These are actual photos taken during the research.
