Climbing Past the Impossible: An Afternoon with Isabel Suppé

Spend the afternoon with female climber, Isabel Suppé, as she tells her heroic survival story.

Experience the beauty of the Bolivian Andes while learning the inspirational story of survival and recovery by Isabel.

Isabel’s book, Starry Night, has received awards and accolades in the Spanish version and the editor of The Alpinist magazine recently wrote about the English version:

“A daring reimagination of the typical disaster narrative, Starry Night portrays a world in which pain and unsettling beauty become inextricably intertwined.” – Katie Ives, Editor of Alpinist Magazine

Isabel tells an inspirational story explaining how, through sheer determination she was able to admire the beauty of the ‘starry sky’above the Condoriri Massif in Bolivia even after she was literally shattered at the bottom of the ice face she was trying to climb on 2010. In addition to being charismatic, optimistic, and funny, Isabel has a contagious spirit and gift for telling great stories.

In 2010, Isabel Suppé survived a 1,100 foot fall while climbing in the Bolivian Andes. She spent two days crawling over jagged ice and rock with an exposed fracture before being rescued. After being told she would never climb again, one year later, Isabel defied all odds and solo summited a new climbing route while on crutches on Serkhe Khollu, an isolated and difficult mountain in the Bolivian Andes.

Not to outdo herself, she then cycled across the United States to raise funds for her mounting medical bills. She returned to her homeland, Germany, only to leave again on a cycling adventure from Morocco to Africa. Fourteen surgeries later, Isabel is still climbing an riding her bicycle. She is an amazing explorer and adventurer.
