Future of the book August 28th with Media Futures

  • Aug 28, 2013 · 6:30 PM

Note: Please only RSVP if you can commit to attend, as you may be robbing someone of an opportunity to be involved.

IxDA London will be co-hosting August’s event at Seren with Media Futures and guests. Together, with our usual high levels of audience participation we will be exploring different aspects of interaction design associated with reading, publishing and the future of the book.

This is a hot topic right now with the rising popularity of digital books, the emergence of shared publishing platforms like Medium, early explorations into richer magazine and book content.

However, we’re keen to understand where there are new opportunities to improve the creation, curation and consumption experiences of the future.

We’re inviting speakers to discuss the key opportunities and challenges around book publishing. The talks will be followed by group discussions where we will ask you to help develop ideas and explore which innovative interaction design approaches and solutions might address these challenges.

Some examples of the questions we’re keen to explore:

• How can we design better interfaces for navigating a publication?

• How can we make the reading experience adapt to better suit different contexts (e.g. on a beach, in bed, in the park)?

• How can consumers of content play a part in interacting with creators of content to create a richer feedback loop? (e.g. Medium’s inline commenting)

About Media Futures

Media Futures is a high-level and hands-on organisation exploring media, society and innovation. We facilitate and support the creation of new products and services, give insight into the future, showcase innovation, explore new revenue streams, and encourage cross-sector partnerships.

Our Publish! programme focuses on innovation and the book, including a day-long event Publish! New adventures in innovation in September, where we showcase pioneering projects and discuss key topics; and Publish! Accelerator: Developing the digital book in November, where we bring together cross-disciplinary teams to form new products.

It was an inspiring event! I really liked the workshop where we practised our brain muscles at the end. Well done Jason and Boon for organising it and the speakers for valuable insights.
