Emotion Driven Design: Lillian Ayla Ersoy + Marco Van Hout + Special Guest!

  • Apr 17, 2013 · 6:00 PM

We've added a special guest to this meeting!

Thanks to a fortunate series of events IxDA will be able to present a very special guest at the end of this meetup. We're pretty sure you have a strong opinion about the work that this individual has led – so we're going to have a Q&A session with this person where you can ask to your heart's content. The suspense is killing us but our lips are sealed – make sure you RSVP!

Lillian Ayla Ersoy: Emotion Driven Design

We will explore the powerful effects of emotion in design; from the way we create interfaces to the way we communicate with our clients.  The talk will also focus on methods that help us create engaging digital experiences by focusing on the customer’s needs and emotions.

Lillian Ayla Ersoy is a Senior UX Designer at BEKK Consulting. She is also a Co-organizer of IxDA Oslo. She studied in the U.S. and Paris before moving to Oslo in 2006.

Marco van Hout: Get Emotional!

We all experience. It is virtually impossible not to continuously experience the world around us. Emotions shape and affectively colour our experiences.

Emotions are crucial for the design discipline because of their influence on both purchase and usage behaviour: if it does not feel good, people will not buy it nor use it. One might state that these emotions are hard to manage, because of their subjective nature. However, there are universal principles in the way that (product/service) design evokes emotions. Once a designer understands these principles, he or she is able to strategically design for a specific emotional impact.

Marco Van Hout: Creative Director of SusaGroup, a strategic design consultancy. Research coordinator of MediaLAB at Amsterdam University of Applied Science. Board member of the International Design & Emotion Society.

As usual we will be continuing the night over some beers and cheers @Oslo Mekaniske after the talks.

Lillian var best! Interessant stoff og mulig å ta i bruk. Fra de to andre var det vanskelig å se relasjonen til Emotion Driven Design.

Lillian's talk was awesome, great overview of what is a complex issue.

Will the slides from her talk be published on the web?

Visually nice, but very fluffy. Needs more focus on tools and methods.

Inspiring talks contributing to shift our mindsets as designers. Todays topic was relatively new to me; a light introduction. Lillian's talk was definitely the best.

It was great! very inspiring and educational, and has given me a new interest into emotion design. Hope to see more meetups on this subject in the future. And the guest was awesome! :D fun to hear a little about the WP8 design and some of his motivations and ideas.
