Early Jazz...and Blues of Bessie Smith
The Speakeasy Trio with Mike Karoub cello, Mike Karloff, piano and Hugh Leal, guitar will have 3 guest artists for this concert!
The flame of traditional jazz has been kept alive in Toledo for over 40 years by clarinetist Ray Heitger and his Cakewalkin' Jassband...including 30 years at the famous Tony Packo's Restaurant. Ray brings his trumpeter Dave Kosmyna and his daughter Nicole Heitger on vocals to join The Speakeasy Trio. Nicole is a specialist in bringing to life the 1920's blues classics made famous by Bessie Smith "The Empress of the Blues." You'll hear You've Been a Good Old Wagon (But You Done Broke Down), Down Hearted Blues, T'aint Nobody's Business If I Do and other classic tunes of the early female jazz/blues singers.
