Kick Off!

Update : Streaming Link!

Welcome to the first Camel and ActiveMQ User Group meeting!

The aim of this initial meetup is to establish a community around Camel and ActiveMQ, by sharing information about our experiences with these technologies.

Developers and Architects from companies such as Avinor, StatNett, Color Line, Bouvet and WebStep will hold a short presentation / lightning talk about (for example):

• Why / How they use Camel / AMQ.

• Challenges faced and overcome.

• Challenges still remaining.

Please take contact with the organizers if you would also like to make a short presentation.

• [masked]: Mingling with food and refreshments (sponsored by Bouvet).

• [masked]: Welcome!

• 1815–1830: Yngve Hansen (Avinor).

• 1835–1850: Simon Herbert (Color Line).

• 1855–1910: Lars Schnell (StatNett).

• 1915–1930: Gareth Western (ERESS/Bouvet).

• 1935–1950: Terje Heen (Politiets IKT-tjenester/WebStep).

• 1950: Wrap up.  Those who want to can continue the discussion at a local pub.

Please take contact with the organizers if you would also like to make a short presentation.

Thank you Mark for taking leadership, providing structure and the excellent organization skills. We now have a good foundation to grow this community. We will ask you to share and invite others to participate. And if you want to host the next meetup and suggest topics please go ahead. The floor is yours!

The presentations are all available from the "More->Files" menu above. Note that you have to be a member of the group and logged in to view these.

As I mentioned earlier the video from the event is also available at Over the next couple of weeks we'll start planning the next meetup. If you have any suggestions or would like to help organize it, take contact!

Thanks for the meetup. It was great to hear the interest in the Erex project. If you like I could do a follow-up presentation going in to greater technical detail regarding the application, once I am back from pappaperm. The homepage for Eress (the organisation who owns Erex) is

Feel free to send me a message if you have any questions :)

There was also a question about other projects / applications using Camel. An interesting example mentioned by Jakub Korab is Ocado, an online groceries retailer based in the UK. Apparently their entire automated warehouse uses JMS (ActiveMQ?) and Camel. It would be good if we could get him to present some 'war stories' at a meetup the next time he is in Oslo.

We'll be ordering food for this meetup later on today. To avoid waste we would appreciate it if everyone can update their RSVP's if they are not coming.

I've had a couple of questions about what language the group will use. We can take a show of hands tomorrow to decide whether we switch to Norwegian. Note that those presenting should present in the language that they are most comfortable with!

As you can see, we've got 5 lightning talks lined up. If you have any specific items that you'd like to discuss please use let me know and I can add them to the agenda.

    See you all tomorrow!

    Confirmed speakers (so far):

    - Yngve Hansen (Avinor)
    - Simon Herbert (Color Line)
    - Lars Schnell (StatNett)
    - Gareth Western (ERESS/Bouvet)

I'm hoping to get around 6 in total. The aim of this is to highlight uses of Camel / AMQ in the field, as well as isolate any common problems that the community has. We can then address these problems directly to Red Hat, who will be represented at the meeting.

At the end of the session we'll take a short discussion to identify potential topics for upcoming meetings.

Take contact if you'd like to present, or if you have any questions.
