Mythic Adventure: World Religions & Culture in Cinema with Prof. Maria Jaoudi

In December, we have one very special event planned, hope you can join us! (Mythology Cafe will resume in January 2014).  Past guest speaker Prof. Maria Jaoudi will present a program on World Religions and Cultures in Cinema preceded by a screening of Joyeux Noël.

World Religions and Cultures in Cinema:  We will analyze cultural, spiritual, and religious themes in a global selection of films, learn to interpret the cinematic elements of character, gender, dialogue, image, mise en scene, lighting, and music; identify and critique religious perceptions in film and interpret the cultural significance of each represented world religion and spiritual themes, concerns, concepts, and values.

Maria Jaoudi is professor of the humanities and religious studies at California State University Sacramento, where she teaches courses on world religions and cultures, mysticism, ecology, and film.  She is the author of three books on spirituality, a poet and painter.

NOTE:  Meet us inside the entrance to the Sanctuary around 12:15.  Look for the handheld Meetup sign.  The program begins at 12:30.  Newcomers are always welcome!  The program is free.

We just grab a coffee and speak French. Some people have been coming every week for months... it creates a kind of warmth to the group.
