The Princess & the Frog King - A Tale of the Inner Life with Jonathan Young, PhD

The Princess and the Frog King –
A Tale of the Inner Life
with psychologist, professor, writer Jonathan Young, PhD

From the realms of mystery and magic, dream and fantasy, comes the enchanting tale of a girl who loved playing with her golden ball. We will discuss the symbolism of desire in one of Joseph Campbell's favorite stories,
The Princess and the Frog King.

In a spirit of play, we will follow this perplexing story from the Brothers Grimm to learn more about the transformative possibilities of shadow. There are times when events in our lives take surprising turns, sometimes bringing distressing anxieties. At such moments, mythic tales can offer guidance. They show us the significance of dimensions beyond ordinary experience. In this evening of storytelling and discussion, we will explore the wisdom of the soul.

Jonathan Young, PhD is a psychologist who consults with organizational leaders and creative artists, especially filmmakers. As a professor, he created and chaired the doctoral level department of mythological studies at the Pacifica Graduate Institute in Santa Barbara. His books and articles focus on personal mythology. His background includes assisting mythologist Joseph Campbell at seminars and serving as founding curator of the Joseph Campbell Archives and Library.

Dr. Young made a wonderful presentation and connected the myth with a lot of insights and "drama." It's easy to see that his enthusiasm and knowledge span a length and breadth shared by few.
