Sunday Marathon (August 5, 2012)

From Justin Moy (co-organizer):

Sorry for the long delay!  It's been a very busy summer for me so far.  Hence, I'm setting this for August 5, 2012 (Sun) for the marathon from 2:00PM to 8:00PM for private room style at Karaoke Duet 53.

RULES

1. You CANNOT input more than one song at a time. After everyone has put in a song, you can put in another song.

2. You can sing in any language you want, but considering this is a (mostly) Japanese singing karaoke group, it would be nice if you sing some Japanese songs (if not all). Don't worry, because there's no judging. =)

3. As for conversation language exchange, I'm going to do something a little differently from what was done in the past.  The first few hours will be free style.  This means you can speak in either English or Japanese.  The last two hours (6-8PM) will be 日本語だけ (JAPANESE ONLY).

4. Let's have fun together! \(^O^)/

ABOUT THE SONGS

I haven't been to Duet 53 so I don't know if they have any electronic devices to enter songs, but as most of you probably know, they have the karaoke books to look up your song.

For Japanese songs, most of the kanji have furigana. If you are not comfortable reading in Japanese, you can always bring lyrics printed out in romaji or you can look them up on an internet-ready device when you are there.

PRICE

It would cost you a total of $18.00 (incl. tax and tip).  I will collect your payment when you arrive.  If you are there for less than three hours, it may be possible for you to pay the hourly rate, which would ultimately be less than the marathon price.  I hope you can stay for the entire time though! (^_^)

FOOD

Food is allowed into the room, but NOT drinks...

DRINKS

As with the usual karaoke places in NYC, you CANNOT bring in any outside beverage. We'll get glasses of water for everyone, but if you'd like something else to drink, there is a full bar at the karaoke place. Please pay for your drink when you purchase it.

LOCATION

Karaoke Duet 53 is located at 900 Eighth Avenue, Floor B1 with the entrance on 53rd Street.

This meetup event is tomorrow! I keep strict track of attendance, and as with the nature of this group and having to make reservations, make sure to update your RSVP if your plans change and you can't make it. This will allow for anyone else on the waiting list to come. Also, remember that the first 4 hours will be free style language speaking (use whatever language you want), but the last 2 hours will be speaking in Japanese only (doesn't mean you can't do some songs in another language). No matter what level of Japanese you are, I highly encourage you to stay for the last two hours. There are no worries and no judging. It's meant to be a time for members to practice what they know and perhaps learn more. I am absolutely not fluent and I make tons of mistakes, but it's good to try, right? =) Let's have a good time singing and getting to know more about one another. \(^O^)/

I would recommend at least learning hiragana so that you can read the lyrics. I learned it in 2 days. Otherwise, find romaji lyrics online and bring them with you.

I already reserved a room, and I have capped this event to 16 members. If you find out that you won't be able to make it, please update your RSVP even if it's on the day of the event.
