Shoot Professional looking Portraits with cheap Reflectors!

  • March 9, 2014 · 12:30 PM
  • Victoria Park, Fountain (next to Windsor House, Causeway Bay)

Come join us for another portrait shoot with natural light. We’ll be shooting in the football field in Victoria Park, Causeway Bay. Lot’s of sunlight and lot’s of space for everybody.

Reflectors! They are cheap, easy to carry in your bag and essential for outdoor portrait photography.

If you don’t own expensive and professional equipment, portable reflectors allow any photographer to achieve a professional lighting effect in outdoor portraits.

A reflector is an object that reflects light onto a subject.

Portable reflectors are very cheap and can be purchased from a variety of sources.  They usually come in kits which contain 5 different colors, although it is possible to purchase them in only one color.  They come in a variety of sizes, but if you can only afford one set, it is best to buy big since the smaller sizes are often not sufficient for full-body portraits or multiple faces.  Unless you have an assistant working for you, a 42 inch reflector size is plenty big enough for most situations yet still small enough to be portable and easily handled during a shoot.

How to use reflectors?  For a quick tutorial, watch these videos below:

What to bring:

1. Any camera. Even an iPhone will take good shots.

2. Reflector or a big, white cardboard.

Schedule:

    12.30pm - We'll shoot from 12.30pm until 2.00pm.

2.00pm - Go for lunch break at Food Street nearby. Bring money.

3.00pm - Go back to the park and continue shooting.

See you guys at the fountain at Victoria Park!

Check the weather, everyone. If it's raining, I will post a message here on Meetup. If you have to drop out, not a problem. But I was there yesterday and it's more like a mist than a drizzle. I was shooting flowers with a few members at Victoria Park. Then drizzle stopped at 1pm and it remained dry until 5pm. I'll be there as usual, rain or shine.

some of use wanted to take photos, too. So we went, despite the tiny rain. Pictures came out good with tiny dew drops on the flower petals and leaves. Turned a bad situation into a good one. I'll post them on our Facebook page.

You're welcome, Stephen. There'll be many more beginner shoots this year. You must keep shooting constantly. That's the best way to know your camera and get better at shooting. Go look for portrait photo tutorials to learn from.
