Sunset from Tai Mo Shan

Hi everybody,

I would like to do some sunset photos from Tai Mo Shan, and also try to do a lapse time.

But at first I want to start from Tai Po Road at the beginning, for monkey photo :-)

Then walk untill Shing Mun Reservoir, go to Needle Hill for a 360° panorama

Finnish by the climb till Tai Mo Shan.

Start: 11am

Shing Mun Reservoir: 1pm

Needle Hill: 2:30pm

Tai Mo Shan: 5pm

How to go:

Join me at Lai Chi Kok MTR station at 10:30am to take bus n°72 or 86b

For alternative choice: to take bus n°51, you have to go to Tsuen Wan exit D, Warning they are only one bus every 30-40 min and it take 20-25 min to go to country park bus stop

total distance: 21km with 1300m gain elevation

For this photo-hike, you have to be fit, it's not so easy to walk with all camera gear in your backpack.

what to bring: camera, tripod, large range lens ( wide to long zoom), filter, etc ...

hiking shoes, water: at least 2 liters, light food, light jacket for the wait at Tai Mo Shan, headlamp/torch

Alternative choice:

Join us at Tai Mo Shan for the sunset: take the bus n°51 at Tsuen Wan MTR until stop26 Country Park, from there they are 1.5h-2h

Yes i did it last year, honestly it's not an easy photo-hike and the weather condition wasn't very good. Would like to do it again but not sure people in this groupe can be fit enough for this long walk, let's see...

sounds like a tough hike... what if you dont have shoes? Where are the best vistas in HK to get sunset/night shots of the city? I once hiked up to the kowloon mountains, but it will be rough at night as there are no paths and it is steep.

Janice: have read the complete description ? We should start from Maclehose stage 6 to stage 8 for the sunset, that's why we will start so early.

Actually, I think that the alternative choice is the best way because I did this trail they are two weeks ago (sunny day and hot), it was tough even for the runner group. we suppose to walk with a backpack about 7-8kg on 20km ... I'm not sure that everybody will appreciate this tough photo-hike.
Let me know your opinion about this metup

Just for information, the route will be long and tough. This is my GPS record in running mode

In photo-hike mode I estimate to do this trail in 6h
