Lomography in Mongkok.

Let's do a bit of Lomography this winter. What's Lomography?

"Don’t Think, Just Shoot." This motto is accompanied by The Ten Golden Rules which are supposed to encourage spontaneity, odd angles, and taking photos anywhere, while minimizing considerations of formal technique.

Typical Lomography cameras are special low-fidelity and constructed to make sure their mechanics are not too technical. What does that mean? It means cheap cameras with plastic lenses. So bring along any camera like iPhones, Blackberry, or a DSLR. Shoot in low resolution jpeg mode because the photos will be crappy anyway.

We're shooting anything and everything there. There'll be people everywhere and that's where you learn to shoot from the hip! You don't even have to look thru the viewfinder sometimes. Shoot over people's shoulders, at ground level, through a fence, under a car, shoot against the sun, etc. You get the idea.

Bring along your iPads or tablet to do some photo manipulation work on it when we sit for drinks at Starbucks. Good photo editors for iPads are Snapseed, Filterstorm, InstaEditor, Adobe Photoshop, etc. Most are free. We'll show you how to make your crappy photos look like art!

After shooting, we'll drop by Simcity for some window shopping of camera equipment.

I have 100's of Lightroom Presets which everyone can use. I've uploaded it here. Just copy the link and paste in your browser to download it. Import into your LR Presets. There are a total of 5 types. 3 of them are in folders which you import into LR by adding them. 2 of them are installers. Just double click and install. Err...I think they're for Mac only. Not sure if Windows users can use them. https://www.yousendit.com/download/UW16eW44R3NwTVZ2TzhUQw

Has anyone tried shooting with the new LED lights yet? I bought a few for my movie making Meetup group. I found them to be suitable for replacing our speedlites. If any of you have LED lights, I'll set up an event for portrait flash photography using these new lights. We'll shoot at night and since these LED lights are continuously on, you can position and compose your subject and lights, knowing what the picture will look like. I have colored gels for these LED lights.
No models provided, but we can take shots of each other.

Mark, there'll be more of these later on. The new year is about to start and we have a whole new program for it.

Mark, we have only a few model shoots each year. The reason we don't do many is that most of our members are beginners with no extra equipment other than owning a camera. We'd love for them to take great shots of models but you can only do so much with natural light. On a dark, cloudy day, the shots won't look good. Some have invested in lighting accessories while many have not. I'll post model shoots in the coming months when the weather is warmer.

Hi Rebekah, I haven't put a date yet cos the weather has been pretty crappy and so unpredictable. I love doing Lomo cos everyone can now make good photos with any shot.
