Writing EFFECTIVE Javascript code

Javascript is no more a small part of total web application. Instead it is new platform and everything (frontend, backend and even database is js based) is written in JS. It has grown from few functions to tens of bigger modules. As the code grows problems and complexity grows in exponential manner not even linear. So it is time for us have some discipline and follow proper engineering principles to manage it. Otherwise all JS projects will end up in chaos with lots of fatty modules, brittle and tightly coupled code. Lets meet and share our ideas to write effective code which is easy to modify, maintain and extend.

Thinking about the format ... I want to make it like TED format ... people can share design problem - solution with javascript. Or you can just throw your architectural/design problem with JS code on table and let more brains discuss on it ... What do you guys say ??

    2 · August 4, 2014

    • Shobhit M.

I agree with the TED format.
Also, We should make presentations available on YOUTUBE.

      August 6, 2014

    • Ganesh G.

Sure ... I got a handycam ... we can do that if someone can bring a tripod.

One interesting topic I am hearing these days with separation of frontend-backend app seperately is : "How do I authenticate/authorize/communicate across between them in different scenarios.
    Should I host frontend/backend on seperate servers/domains?
Is enabling CORS a security issue ?
As a frontend developer how should I work with out depending on backend failures?
As a backend developer how can I get my work done with out caring about CSS/javascript issues?

And many more such questions ... Do you also have same ... Then lets share, discuss and INNOVATE :)

I offered our (Wingify) office space in the last meetup. If the location works and there is no other venue we have, you guys may consider our office. We have ample space, especially if you want to hack on something. We can easily accommodate 50 people here for one session. But our space is better suited for hackathons. People can make small groups and work together if they like. But we are not an excellent space if you want to do just sessions.

Just in case if you do plan to have the event at our office, you will have to let us know in advance so that we can make the necessary arrangements.

      Hey Vaidik,
Thanks for offering the place. Definitely would like to host the meetup at wingify so that I can meet JS gurus there :).

I want to start with one quick tip : SingleTon ... Most of you might have heard about it already.
We had a situation where we have some data that needs to be pulled from server. This data contains static information of the system. Different UI components use different part of the data. Now the questions are when should we pull from server? How to make sure only one request goes to sever? If any processing needs to be done where can I do it? Only one instance of this data should be there as it is big data and processing changes should be shared. We came up with some solution ... But would like to hear some thoughts :)

Thanks for quick RSVPs ... please let me know who all want to share their knowledge with writing effective JS code.
