November: Cat Ornaments (Change from WoodBurning)

[masked] - We will have a full house this Sunday!  If you RSVP'ed YES, please don't forget to come!  Shelly has worked hard to have enough materials prepped for this project!

[masked] - We have had a slight change of plans.  Shelly is going to show us how to take two small ordinary gourds and turn them into the most adorable Cat figurines.  Pictures to follow!  There will be a small fee  ($5.00) charged to cover the materials used.

We will be joining two different types of gourds together to form the body of our gourd cat. We will then be sculpting the face and tail with a two-part epoxy clay called "Apoxie Sculpt" (there is a slight odor but not noxious) (if you have very weak hands kneading the clay my pose a very small problem). This clay takes about 3 hours to dry completely. We will be able to paint on the clay after about 90 minutes.  We should leave with a completed project.

As there is prep and ordering that needs to be done on my end a RSVP is very important. If you RSVP a "yes" please make sure you attend.

Rats, I am really bummed!! I really wanted to come to this. I'm having car trouble and had to put my car in the shop and it looks like it won't be ready until after Monday. So, I hope my spot can get filled with someone else. I hope you all have a fun time making your kitties : )

I am tempted to say how inconvenient no-shows are, but I won't because I am a 'nice' person

Shelly, I'm late with my RSVP, so if there won't be enough supplies, don't worry about it.

Kim, I tried to teach dogs a couple years ago and it was not a success. It was hard to form the face to come up with a friendly puppy. Maybe later we can try to re-create our own pooches but not this time.

That's OK Shelly-I was just giving dogs a voice in the cat crowd! ha ha

If you have a craft knife or some other type of knife that can cut clay perhaps you can help me by bringing that along. Also brushes and water containers. If not, that is OK too.

Phyllis, gourds will last for years and years. These are hard shelled gourds.
I have seen the gourds made into dachshounds, very cute. If that is what your want to do I can show you how that is done.
I will not show you how to do other dogs as this is a very crowded class and we must stay on target to complete the class.
Word of warning on my teaching style...I keep to the program and expect everyone to do the same. I am loud enough for everyone to hear so we will all be doing the same thing at the same time.
Yes, Diana...painting! If you want to paint your cat crazy then bring your crazy colors with you. You may want to bring your favorite brushes also. Shelly

These are adorable! Since these are gourds, will they last or rot as a pumpkin would? I've never worked with gourds!

  • Diana K.

Yay, I think I can make it to this! Will we also get to paint the kitties?

The skinny ones could totally be wiener dogs!

Nice try Desiree-but those are such yappy dogs-not like my Harry! ha ha

  • Monica

There's your dog Kim....a weiner dog. It might not look like Harry, but it can be a long lost cousin.

Change the ears-and nose a bit and give the gourd a friendlier personality-and presto-it's a doggie! ha ha
