Screen Printing

We'll be making these clever screens for screenprinting. We'll do the actual screen printing at the next sit and stitch. (The screen takes time to dry.)

We will be using embroidery hoops, nylons, and mod podge. All you need to bring is a design. (The one pictured is a bit too complicated.) All the supplies were donated so all the proceeds from this meetup go directly to paying our meetup fees. Thanks so much, Mary C!!

This is a really great group, I had a marvelous time, the company is fun and the instruction was excellent. I'm very excited about the silk screen I produced. I'm going to try printing it out later today.

Hi, Can you tell me how much money to bring for screen printing? I thought you sent an amount previously, but I cannot find it....

Renee, I can't find it either! I thought I'd set it at $3 but apparently I didn't so we'll just take donations at whatever amount people would like to contribute.

What would be an example of a design to bring? I am not clear about that.

I'll add some ideas to the photo gallery, but any simple images with thick(er) lines and two tones will work. Text will work (like your initials) or symbols. I just google whatever I'm interested in (like cats), do an image search, and filter by black and white. I'll bring some ideas, too. :)

What do we need to bring for the screen printing?

Kate, you are right! All you need to bring is a design. The largest hoops I have are bout six and a half inches in diameter, so your design shouldn

Hi friends, Could you explain me what is "screeprinting" ?

    August 6, 2012

    • Desiree

Hi, Rebeca! Screen printing is essentially making kind of like a stencil out of fabric that you use to paint on other fabric. In our case, we'll be using nylon stretched over a frame. We'll block out where we don't want paint to be able to get through the nylon. When it's all dry, you just spread paint across your stencil and it will soak through wherever you didn't "block" and leave the pattern on your tshirt (or whatever you're screen printing.) Here's the wikipedia page for it: http://en.wikipedia.o...
      Hope that helps!

Erin, it will be pretty straightforward. It's really just a matter of practicing before you put it on your finished product. :)

I'm going to be out of town for the Sit & Stitch on September 2nd. Will it be pretty straightforward to use the screen we make on my own after it's dried?
