Experience America – National Parks – Grand Canyon

America’s National Parks offer a staggering array of opportunities for epic adventure, breathtaking beauty, and remarkable experiences that you will remember for a lifetime. Covering more than 84 million acres, the National Park System is comprised of 124 historical parks or sites, 78 national monuments, 59 national parks, 25 battlefields or military parks, 18 preserves, 18 recreation areas, 10 seashores, four parkways, four lakeshores, and two reserves. There is something for everyone! This year I want to experience a bit of just a fraction of them, including the nation’s (and world’s) first national Park: Yellowstone. The goal is to sample as many national parks as I can within budgetary and time off from work constraints. If you are interested in joining me, you will be responsible for arranging your own transportation and lodging. Details of each trip will be planned with participants.

Part 2: Grand Canyon National Park

This park is located in northern Arizona.

A powerful and inspiring landscape, Grand Canyon overwhelms our senses through its immense size.

Unique combinations of geologic color and erosional forms decorate a canyon that is 277 river miles (446km) long, up to 18 miles (29km) wide, and a mile (1.6km) deep.

For detailed park information, see http://www.nps.gov/grca/index.htm.

I should arrive at the Grand Canyon Visitor Center in Grand Canyon Village around 2:30pm on 3/19. I'm going to spend some time at the visitor center then walk/hike the Rim Trail from Mather Point to the Trailview Overlook, and back. The next morning at 8:00am I'm going to drive to Moran Point then hike the Grandview Trail to Coconino Saddle and back. I plan to depart Grand Canyon Village around 11:00am for Sedona, arriving at Red Rock State Park around 2:00pm.

Hey Vic! I have most of the details of the trip planned out as far as my flight, hotels, and what I want to do in the park. I'm heading to Sedona on day 2 to hike there as well, and you're welcome to join me. We should talk about this the next time we're out adventuring. The trip is still a bit out so there's no rush.
