Nov. 5, noon lecture, "The Resurrection of Nat Turner"

This is an author presentation of a book at the Library of Virginia.

The Resurrection of Nat Turner
Tuesday, November 05, 2013
Time: Noon–1:00 PM
Place: Conference Rooms, Free

Nathaniel "Nat" Turner was an African American slave who led a slave rebellion in Virginia on August 21, 1831 that resulted in 55 white deaths. Whites responded with at least 100 black deaths. He gathered supporters in Southampton County, Virginia.

Acclaimed author Sharon Ewell Foster will discuss and sign her fact-based novel The Resurrection of Nat Turner, Part One: The Witnesses, winner of 2012 Shaara Prize for Civil War Fiction. Her extensive research presents Turner through the eyes and words of slaves and masters, friends and foes. Foster is a Christy Award-winning author whose books have earned her a loyal following that crosses gender and racial boundaries.

What an interesting presentation. The author described her research and how it proves that previously published books and reports about the trial are incorrect in many ways. Of course, she added some intrigue, conspiracy and politics into the mix.

I just changed my RSVP to "no", but I hope to make it. Jammed up at work right now. Looks like a great program.

Tom. You 'space cadet'! (Pun intended.) This was posted in the wrong place!

However, you have brought up a great idea...I say we end this educational experience at One Monument with highly intellectual conversation over the two bottles of wine left from the 30 bottles last night.
