Feb., 23, 10 am - Oregon Hill and Part A Hollywood Cemetery

We will begin at Stuart Circle in the Fan.

Parking is available on the 4th (top) level of the parking structure across Lombardy Street from One Monument Avenue apartments and behind the First English Lutheran Church.

The address of the church is 1603 Monument Ave, Richmond, VA 23220.

Below is a view looking north. Notice Stuart Circle in the background and One Monument Avenue Apartment to the right.

We will assemble here at the front of One Monument Avenue.

Then hike through historical Oregon Hill

on our way to Hollywood Cemetery.

There we will explore the portion furthest away from the James River.

The hike will be about 4.6 miles and take about 4 hours.

This hike will be unique in that it will be a lot of history and only less than 5 miles of hiking. It is a good opportunity for those who are interested in digging deep into the lives of some of Hollywood's most notable residents.

For those who want a longer hike with more moving and less talking this one is not for you.

We had great weather for our 4 hour 10 min. 5 mile historical journey.
A highlight was having Leslie, our 1526th and newest member as well as Peg our 6th member. Check the picture.
We also had VCU journalistic student Bria White who used our hike to create a video story for her school project. Bria plans to crewe a UTube video which I hope to post here on our Meetup site.

I'm afraid I have to beg out for tomorrow's hike. A conflict has come up which I can't avoid. I am keeping my eye on the scheduled hikes, though, and look forward to joining one soon. I hope this doesn't cause a problem for the group.

I saw that the parking deck has a sign that says parking by permit only towing enforced. So is it ok on the 4th level?

    February 22, 2014

    • Dennis B.

Yes Cheryl it will be ok to park there tomorrow. The reason is I live at One Monument Avenue, this is our parking structure and you will be my guest.

Although I would usually go for a more faster pace, I love, love, love Hollywood Cemetery and its history and views. Oregon Hill is pretty great, too. Count me in!
