My boyfriend is Japanese, and I'm a language novice. We designed this group to bring together native Japanese speakers and those interested in learning for conversation and social outings. Some, but not all of our meetups will focus on language practice. I have taken one class and he is a native speaker, so we intend for these conversation groups to be accessible to anyone interested in getting together to learn, chat and make friends. New learners of English are also welcome.  We are also a young couple and we like to go out and have fun. Having cross-cultural interests doesn't define us, and I don't want it to define this group. Join if you're Japanese, American, or from anywhere else. Just make sure that along with a healthy respect for all cultures, you're coming to learn, make friends and enjoy going out together. Singles and couples welcome.

As young people in this economy we really try to respect a budget. I will do my best to be upfront about all costs when I post a Meetup. Most outings will be low-cost, low key affairs. If we see a movie or attend an event with an admission fee, ticket cost, or any other cost, you will be expected to pay for your own. To offset our Meetup dues, we will 'pass the hat' (technically a bag) at every event.  Suggested contribution is $1.00, but dues are not required to attend events.
