Hello. The purpose of this group is to provide: 1) a 24/7 online hangout on Facebook 2) Private Japanese training for Beginners to get them up to speed. 3) NYC in-person Events where people can actually use their Japanese! Practice makes perfect and this group provides lots of practice. ALL LEVELS ARE WELCOME, as long as you do not use English and are determined to improve your reading/writing/spoken Japanese language ability. There is NO elitism or judgment here, so feel confident to bust out your Japanese! And for those interested in private training, here is a link: http://www.wyzant.com/Tutors/NY/Brooklyn/8183564/#ref=1RXPWM
Our live Events include Japanese anime/drama/sitcom viewings (with Japanese subtitles), restaurant night, karaoke events and more. Also, we have native Japanese speakers in our group and they are a great resource for help with your Japanese.
The Facebook Wall is quite active and is used as our own private Japanese-language sandbox. You can post and discuss whatever you like, provided that it is in kana/kanji/romaji and links may only be from native Japanese-language sites.
** IMPORTANT ** This group is not casual and many people have been removed from the group for not participating enough. You have to either attend at least 1 Event every 60 days OR make at least 1 post on Facebook every 60 days in order to remain in the group. The Facebook post can be as short as one sentence. If even that is too much of your time, our group would not be suitable for you.
New members will be sent a link to the Facebook page and are granted posting privileges immediately, along with a chance to RSVP for our NYC Events. ありがとうございます!
-Louis
P.S. Please keep in mind that while cancellations are okay, being a no-show at an Event will get you immediately removed from the group. Our policies are strict but it ensures that the few people who remain in the group are the ones that are genuinely interested. It is much more gratifying to have 100 serious members who become like family than to have 1,000 casual members who remain almost completely anonymous. People in this group who stick around end up making friends with other Japanese learners and that is the nicest part about this group.
P.P.S. I am the boss :) If I send you an email, please respond. If you have problems/criticisms about this group OR don't respond to emails via this site...this is not the group for you.
P.P.P.S. YOU MUST BE 21 OR OLDER TO JOIN THIS GROUP.
So if you are STILL interested (even after all of my nonsense), we welcome you with open arms!
