Open Seattle Japanese Language and Culture Meetup

We're going to the Elysian to drink a little beer and overeat above-average pub grub this Thursday night, so I hop to see you there. (Bad typo-pun, sorry).

You can order whatever you want, but they will only bring a single check which will have an automatic gratuity, so please remember to bring plenty of cash. Prices are reasonable, with most plates around $11-14 (plus tax/tip).

They have a curry tonkatsu-like dish (schnitzel), fish tacos, burgers, and a remarkably decent variety of vegetarian dishes. Sometimes they have a yuzu beer, but right now they probably have something pumpkin-based instead.

Kids are welcome until 11pm, so as usual Kojiro and Shidou will probably be there.

Parking is occasionally a bit of a pain in the ass because it's Capitol Hill, but you'll often find something along 12th or in the dendrites along Madison. There's a super-cheap pay lot around 19th & Madison if you run out of luck, or the reasonable SCCC garage down around Broadway/Pine. Bus access is super-easy, and options include routes 2, 10, 11, and 12 to name just the ones I can think of without looking anything up.

Local denizens will probably pick the nijikai spot, but among the nearby options include Von Trapps, that whiskey bar Canon, and a few dozen other options.

I plan to pre-kai at nearby Bar Sue, [masked]th Ave, which has happy hour until 7pm. I'll probably be there by 5:45pm if you feel like joining me.

Had to CNX this one. They decided to change the big office afternoon potluck to today instead.

Yeah I wouldn't be up for much at a restaurant after an afternoon work buffet...

I am very familiar with this area but PLEASE take into account the parking situation of these places. It is very annoying around there! There are joints in and around Seattle that actually do have parking... I guess I'll still try to make it though.

Each week I make a note of what parking tends to be like and where the best options tend to be when I know enough to say anything about it, and I include transit information. I definitely consider convenience of transport and parking when planning meetup locations, otherwise I'd probably have a lot more meetups in Georgetown, where neither parking nor transit is convenient but there are plenty of cheap places for dinner and drinks. If I were deciding where to go based solely on what's convenient for me, we'd mostly eat at Ethiopian restaurants at 29th & Cherry, Thai or pizza in Madrona, or French restaurants in Madison Valley.

If it makes any difference, I will be going by bicycle (freeing up at least one parking space for those coming by car).

I got sick, and not getting better, so I can't make it. Sorry for changing RSVP at last minute.
