Ohanami!

Spring has sprung! Well, sorta. The UW is reporting that the cherry blossoms at roughly in half-bloom, and they are expected to continue to bloom over the next several days. http://www.washington.edu/news/2014/03/13/2014-uw-cherry-tree-watch-bloom-at-15-percent-mark/ As you know, sakura are rather fickle, so we have to see them quickly while we still can.
Look for Michiko and Daniel in the quad at the UW campus (http://uw.edu/maps/?lndmk-1) as they'll have grabbed some space somewhere. Feel to bring any kind of blanket or chairs you may have that are picnic-appropriate, as well as any food or drink to share. But please note, it is illegal to have or consume alcohol in public spaces in Seattle, but we won't stop you. Also, don't forget your camera, spouse, offspring, or pets, as I'm sure they'll enjoy the beautiful outdoor setting as well.
After picnicking for a few hours, we'll probably head over to Big Time brewery for some beer. So if you're coming later, please look for us there.
Bus access is extremely easy, as numerous buses run into and through the u-district. Also, parking on the UW campus is free on the weekend: http://www.washington.edu/facilities/transportation/commuterservices/parking Please note, this event may change if there is inclement weather, so please check the website prior to the event. I had a great time enjoying sakura, food, nijikai and meeting a lot of cool people. Hope there will be more of these get-togethers. Thank you Michiko-san for organizing this, and saving my favorite plate!

It didn't rain, but I wish we had had the weather that we had today. Sunny, warm, and gorgeous! I have no complaints about the food, though, nor the cherry blossoms.

We're headed to nijikai. Look for us at big time.

I'll probably be late; Aikido goes until about 12:30, then I'll need food. It takes more time on a bike, my usual mode of travel. Jitensha de ohanami e ekimasu...did I get that right?

    March 22, 2014

    • Greg

Should be "ikimasu" instead of "ekimasu," but you got the grammar right.

      March 22, 2014

Look for balloons or a big balloon to find our group.
