JS MVC Meetup #8

  • Apr 9, 2014 · 6:30 PM

Hi folks,

We would like you to join us on Wednesday April 9th for another JS MVC Meetup! The Meetup is being held at A Lab and will start at 18:30h.

1. Hypermedia API's
Joost Cassee

Joost will give a presentation about Hypermedia APIs with HAL and rich JavaScript clients. Compared to classical REST APIs, Hypermedia designs scale better, are more easily changed and promote decoupling and encapsulation, with all the benefits those things bring.

2. LuvDaSun / angular-hal
Elmer Bulthuis

Elmer will be putting the presentation of Joost in practice through a simple example angular-app using the LuvDaSun / angular-hal module.

We are looking forward to see you all there!

Ben and Niels

I wrote a small piece about the meetup :)
    You can find it here:

Please correct me if I wrote something wrong,
Hypermedia API are totally new for me ;)

Generators do not allow you to start multiple processes at the same and resolve them in a specific order as far as I know.

Co allows you to do just that :)

    My slides are up at:

I also promised a little gift: I created client credentials for people from this meetup group to play with the Go About API. They are:

    client_id: DAoGr2cXxY27qSI7mcF1oz94mbZVpLuK
    client_secret: WL5DMDsRcaZMYD65D057AzUS_gnGT-HE

You will might want to skip the OAuth 2.0 stuff, so I also generated a bearer token that you can use immediately. Use the following header to authenticate:
Authorization: Bearer IisbtUAVatvhZq5aDtWtgPRdnhgYo6mu82xnOdF3CAHlCl. [include the dot at the end]

You can use the HAL Browser at:

    Documentation can be found at:

I will disable these credentials in a month or so. Getting your own keys is simple, just go to:

All feedback, criticism and questions welcome! Mail me at [masked].

O, and documentation is not complete yet. The tutorials are the best place to start.

Thanks everyone for coming. I will put my slides up tomorrow. And I will have something for people who like to play with planner APIs. ☺

For the people who use Ember, I found a HAL adapter for ember-data:

Awesome talk by Joost on HAL. Saved an hour of reading up on HATEOAS (seriously who uses HATE in an acronym?).
And thanks to Elmer I don't have to look into HAL clienside libraries, thanks.

We have big waiting list again for tomorrow's Meetup. If you've RSVP'd yes and can't make it anymore, please take a minute to update your RSVP. Thanks!

Hi Niels! Sorry I won't be able to make it this time. However I'd like to share a training on Angular JS, seems interesting:

Ah man, too bad there are no spots left. Was really looking forward to this.

    April 2, 2014

    • Ben K.

Just make sure you're on the waiting list. People often can't make it on short notice and change their RSVP to 'no' which automatically bumps the next person to the 'yes' list.

Unfortunately something came up. Better luck next time. Have fun!

Sorry folks, I'm gonna be at React Conf in London (, so I cannot make it this time. Have fun! PS. That's a *different* React, btw. ;)
