I haven't been at the meetup in a few months, so my opinion is hypocritical at best, but:
I feel pretty strongly that recruiters who want to tap user groups for talent should show up to meetups. A problem with the proliferation of recruiting firms seems to be that several (not all, but several) do not understand the community that they are recruiting from well. I think encouraging (or requiring) their presence at meetups is a way we can help that.

As the group continues to grow, we're attracting more IT recruiters as members. Which I think is fine, but I also want to make sure we have ground rules so things don't get spammy on the list.
