November 26th – Web Application Framework using the JetBrains WebStorm Node.js

  • Nov 26, 2013 · 6:00 PM
  • Bank of America

This months meeting will be joint JaxNode User Group and Jax ARC Sig meeting! The presentation will cover how to build a web application using the Express Web Application Framework using the JetBrains WebStorm Node.js IDE.

Node.js provides a way of writing server software using Javascript. Node is built on top of the V8 javascript engine from Chrome, and can be used for everything including web application to controlling robots.

David Fekke is a software engineer based here in Jacksonville, FL and is the co-founder of the JaxNode User Group. He has experience building web applications built with PHP, ColdFusion, ASP.NET MVC and Node.js. He also develops mobile applications for iOS and Android devices.

Big thanks to TEK Systems once again for sponsoring pizza at our event. At the conclusion of our meeting, we will have a drawing for a Telerik Ultimate license, a professional license of any of MindScape's products, and a developers license for many of JetBrains products. We also have some monthly PluralSight subscription vouchers, t-shirts and other giveaways!

Reminder: The meeting begins at 6:00 PM (networking), 6:30 PM (presentation), and all our monthly speakers receive a MindScape MegaPack license for presenting!  For a list of past speakers and presentation over the last 3 years, please visit and check out the JaxNode usergroup at!

Hi Wayne - Sorry for the late reply, and not to speak for David, but historically his talks generally start with a brief summary of components required and configuration with special attention on road blocks he dealt with while developing a real world app. David's talks are always very popular and his presentations are usually a 'soup to nuts' driven app creation, with the majority being live coding examples, and more references and links to more familiar code unless questions from us request details, and more focus of specific node.js code using Jetbrain's WebStorm IDE. Oh, also along with some other great software, we will be giving a JetBrains license out at the conclusion of the meeting which can be used for WebStorm, ReSharper, or about a dozen other JetBrains products. Will this cover the beginning steps of setting up the dev / deploy environment or is it an advanced coding talk? Thanks
