From time to time since I joined JaxWeb/JaxPHP, we've discussed ways of expanding our web presence beyond Meetup pages.
At one time Alan made a pitch for a Drupal site, but it appeared no-one else really wanted to work that hard. And we discussed a merged web site again late last year, but didn't get much beyond general agreement on the Meetup merger itself.
Don't get me wrong, Meetup is a fine tool for organizing meetups. But c'mon, we're web designers and PHP developers: is "fine" really good enough for us? And Imre gets kudos for expanding our web presence to Twitter, but Meetup and Twitter, by themselves, don't really synch.
So now that a critical mass of people have migrated to or joined JaxPHP-JaxWeb, and it's too hot out to prepare another PHP or MySQL presentation, I propose that we devote at least one full meeting to brainstorming our web presence.
Please come prepared with ideas about the social web, mashups, SEO, content management, etc., etc. Any and all Web 2.0 buzzwords are welcome (except maybe "Web 2.0"). And to encourage attendance, I'm pleased to announce I've been authorized to distribute "valuable prizes".
In the meantime feel free to start the discussion off on the message board!
