Now that we've beaten PHP frameworks to death, time to move on to CMS (Content Management Systems).  Jonathon has offered to bring us up to date on web development with Wordpress:

Come peek under the hood of WordPress, the CMS behind nearly a fifth of the world's top websites. We'll dive through the core of WordPress, learning how a user's request for a URL translates into the HTML we see. Along the way, we'll explore methods for extending and altering WordPress using the theme and plugin APIs.
