Hello, I play drums as a hobby on and off. And I'm a proud owner of a late 60's Slingerland Jazz Kit! I studied Jazz Drumming in the Bay Area, 10 year's ago with E.W. Wainwright! He ran the SF Jazz Workshop in Frisco in the 70's and 80's!
Just moved to the area and signed on to a few meetups. I need to meet people and make new friends.
I have a lot of respect for the Free Jazz Movement in the 60's and 70's. Sun Ra, Miles and T-Monk...trailblazers...they were deep cats...and I respect that boldness. But I also have a lot of respect for Esperanza Spalding. She's amazing...for how young she is...GREAT things will come from her!
See above.
You guys probably know of a Japanese woman owning a Jazz Club in Downtown LA...apparently people in "the know" or "underground" know of this place? World Class Jazz Cats come there to sit in and/or be a part of the audience. But we used to hear about it in Oakland...when we would have underground jam sessions in peoples houses! I miss that...it was like pick-up game! It's became very popular during the recession, in 2008!
No..but I reckon.it's worth it!
