Handmaid's Tale by Margaret Atwood

Great people and great conversation about fate, destiny, failures of philosophy in phenomenology :-) and unfair turns in live. Renee will definitely stay with us for another while whispering in our ears that we better enjoy what everyday has to offer and true aristocrats might be hidden behind the gray curtain of what seem to be ordinary people.

We will change genre for our next club moving from the fiction created in the mind of  the protagonist into the magnificent combination of a scientific idea and the fictionally extrapolation of it in a future world: Science Fiction!

For the next club we will go with a true classic: Handmaid's Tale from Margaret Atwood!

Hats of to Susa for organizing another great Meetup - excellent discussion of the selected book and lots of yummy food. I enjoyed listening to the views about this book that were expressed by the attendees but still not persuaded to attempt reading it again. Perhaps in another 5 years...

Don't know whether it's the genre, my mood or the weather, but my several attempts to read this book have been unsuccessful. I may stop by the Bistro to hear what others think of the book.

Disappointed I joined too late to be a part of this meeting. What is the next book and date?

Hi all, our reservation is confirmed - the staff at the Bistro is super friendly and accommodating. Let's hope their newly introduced brunch will convince our sophisticated brunchers :-)
I'm almost done with the book and I am really intrigued by the story so far - looking forward to hear everybody's experience.
Please update your RSVP in case you can't join us next Sunday!

Wah, I am out of town that week. So sorry to miss this one. Especially since I recommended it. It's a great book. And nice find on the illustrations. Those are from the Folio Society edition of the book. Really nice edition, but a little pricey. Oryx and Crake is good too. If you find you like Atwood, you might also want to check out Cat's Eye, Alias Grace, and the Blind Assassin. All very good.
See you at the next one! Happy reading.

    Hi all!
Outnumbered.. Oh well! I actually forgot I have a fishing trip on the 22nd so I wouldn't have been able to go anyway.. Oops!
If people would like, I'd love to suggest a book for October.. I'm a big Mediterranean/Italianist so something probably with that referent. Sound good? :)
