JERSEY JAZZ MEETUP HISTORY

Fall 2009, friends Hope, Paula & Liz were playing board games at SJ Java Coffeehouse in Voorhees. Liz had an idea for creating a Jazz Meetup for the NJ area. Hope and Paula supported the idea. Winter of 2009, the creative process began for the Jersey Jazz Meetup Group. Hope would provide the Meetup Page support. Paula would provide useful advice pertaining to Meetup Groups. Liz would handle finding the Jazz venues, shows and concerts. It is now 3 years later and we continue to go strong with over 150 Meetups.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR JAZZ LOVERS:

FEE

There is a cost associated with hosting a Meetup with meetup.com. To help alleviate some of the costs, we ask our members to assist us with this cost through charging a nominal fee.

The yearly fee is $5.00.

New Members- New members will be required to pay fees after their first visit.

***The fee will be collected at the beginning of each Meetup.  Please bring the exact amount of $5.00. Thanks!***

Cash or check will be accepted.

PHOTOS

In order to be a member of this Meetup Group, we require everyone to post a photo of himself/herself. Cartoons, caricatures or avatars are NOT acceptable.  We require a photo because we believe that providing a picture and your name gives us some assurance of who we are meeting.  It is also helpful to the organizers to be able to find our members in a crowd.  With a picture in hand, we know exactly who we are looking for as well as give us a level of comfort when meeting people for the first time. Our pictures are posted to give our members the same level of comfort when meeting us.

NO SHOWS

If you RSVP YES & then are not able to attend the Meetup, please change the RSVP to NO. We understand things come up in life and plans have to change. Just be courteous and update your status, we appreciate this consideration. We would prefer for you to RSVP NO, if you have other plans on the same date of a Meetup and are unsure of your attendance.  If your plans change, and you are able to attend the Meetup, please just show up.

Members who have 3 NO SHOWS will be dropped from this Meetup.

MEMBERS

If a Meetup Game Player has not attended any Meetups for more than a year, he/she will be dropped from the Meetup Group.We want to have a current list of active members.The removal of non-attending members will occur every year in January.

These are Meetups that are not hosted. Please contact the Organizers if you want to serve as an Event Host.

EVENT HOSTS - HELP WANTED

There are many Jazz events happening throughout the region. We would like to fill the calendar with more Meetups but we are unable to attend all of them. In the past, we have been fortunate that some of our Jazz Lovers have served as Event Host(s). Please consider being an Event Host(s) so we can post additional Meetups.

Events Host Duties

·         Be a friendly person

·         Provide details on where to meet at the location

·         Provide your contact information to attendees

·         Greet Jazz Lovers who attend the Meetup

·         Check up on attendees & maybe answer simple questions

·         Provide a headcount of attendees to organizers

MUSICIANS

Please send us information about your music gigs with plenty of notice so we can post it as a Meetup.

Jazz Lovers please continue to make us aware of Jazz happenings in the area so we can share it with our members.Keep the good suggestions coming in – we welcome them!
