Dark Places by Gillian Flynn (click name to go to Amazon link)

I have a meanness inside me, real as an organ.

Libby Day was seven when her mother and two sisters were murdered in “The Satan Sacrifice of Kinnakee, Kansas.” As her family lay dying, little Libby fled their tiny farmhouse into the freezing January snow. She lost some fingers and toes, but she survived–and famously testified that her fifteen-year-old brother, Ben, was the killer. Twenty-five years later, Ben sits in prison, and troubled Libby lives off the dregs of a trust created by well-wishers who’ve long forgotten her.

The Kill Club is a macabre secret society obsessed with notorious crimes. When they locate Libby and pump her for details–proof they hope may free Ben–Libby hatches a plan to profit off her tragic history. For a fee, she’ll reconnect with the players from that night and report her findings to the club . . . and maybe she’ll admit her testimony wasn’t so solid after all.

As Libby’s search takes her from shabby Missouri strip clubs to abandoned Oklahoma tourist towns, the narrative flashes back to January 2, 1985. The events of that day are relayed through the eyes of Libby’s doomed family members–including Ben, a loner whose rage over his shiftless father and their failing farm have driven him into a disturbing friendship with the new girl in town. Piece by piece, the unimaginable truth emerges, and Libby finds herself right back where she started–on the run from a killer.

We want to start the meeting at promptly 7:30pm, so be sure you account for enough time to park and buy yourself any food/beverages from Wegmans that you may want to enjoy during the meeting!! We will meet in the center room - it can be difficult to find the group since so many other groups also meet in this location, so if you have the book please bring it with you and have it visible on the table so other members can see it and know it's the correct group. You can text me at[masked] (texts only please, no phone calls) but I usually don't arrive until exactly 7:30pm so I may not be able to help you find the group.

The forum for this meeting is an open forum style, so please come prepared with questions and discussion points and be an active participant!! Everyone is welcome to speak freely about the book!

Hope to meet you all soon!!

I had a great time with a great bunch of people. Everyone is really welcoming. I was a little nervous but it was a lively discussion and a fun night. The book I mentioned was called Warrior Princess by Mindy Budgor, its about one woman's quest to become the first female Maaisai warrior. It looked interesting and funny. I have not read it so I can not say if it is good but it seemed different. Anyway I am looking forward to the next event. Thanks for making me feel so welcome!

I enjoyed the discussion so much. Tahitia joined us for first time and is a great addition to our group. We had great varied opinions of how much we liked or disliked the people in the story. We missed a bunch of our group and sorry they missed a great discussion. Hope everyone is back in August.
