The Ocean at the End of the Lane by Neil Gaiman

For our next meeting, let's meet and discuss a genre we haven't really touched on yet... it's technically classified as Fantasy/Science Fiction (I'll be the first to admit that I'm not a fan of this genre at all usually, and I know most of our members also are not) but from what I've heard it's definitely worth reading and is not your typical fantasy/Sci-Fi novel, so let's give it a shot!!! I've heard great things about this book:

The Ocean at the End of the Lane: by Neil Gaiman (click name to go to Amazon link)

The Ocean At The End of the Lane is a novel about memory and magic and survival, about the power of stories and the darkness inside each of us.

It began for our narrator forty years ago when he was seven: the lodger stole the family’s car and committed suicide in it, stirring up ancient powers best left undisturbed. Creatures from beyond the world are on the loose, and it will take everything our narrator has just to stay alive: there is primal horror here, and a menace unleashed — within his family, and from the forces that have gathered to destroy it.

His only defense is three women, on a ramshackle farm at the end of the lane. The youngest of them claims that her duckpond is an ocean. The oldest can remember the Big Bang.

The Ocean at the End of the Lane is a fable that reshapes modern fantasy: moving, terrifying and elegiac — as pure as a dream, as delicate as a butterfly’s wing, as dangerous as a knife in the dark.

We want to start the meeting at promptly 7:30pm, so be sure you account for enough time to park and buy yourself any food/beverages from Wegmans that you may want to enjoy during the meeting!! We will meet in the center room - it can be difficult to find the group since so many other groups also meet in this location, so if you have the book please bring it with you and have it visible on the table so other members can see it and know it's the correct group. You can text me at[masked] (texts only please, no phone calls) but I usually don't arrive until exactly 7:30pm so I may not be able to help you find the group.

The forum for this meeting is an open forum style, so please come prepared with questions and discussion points and be an active participant!! Everyone is welcome to speak freely about the book!

Hope to meet you all soon!!

I got called for a new job orientation tonight and am not sure if I'll be out in time or if they ask me to stay until closing.
