Are you Jewish but left unfulfilled by traditional congregations whose services and activities do not match your beliefs nor engage your spirit?
Are you a critical thinker who doesn't necessarily believe in God, but wants to emphasize what you do believe in a community context and wants to celebrate Jewish holidays and life-cycle events together in a way that feels natural and affirming to you?
This group is intended to create a community of like-minded people in Silicon Valley. We look to create an alternative to traditional synagogues that is more inclusive and that will bring together people who want to explore the meaning of Judaism but not necessarily in the "standard" way that is currently available in our area. We're starting this group out as something more informal, with our initial focus on Friday night gatherings. As the group grows and we get a better sense of the interests of the participants, we intend to explore the formation of a Jewish Humanist congregation in the Silicon Valley area.
Jewish Humanism pulls from traditional Jewish ideals such as freedom, self-reflection, and desire to make the world a better place. It embraces a human-centered philosophy that combines the celebration of Jewish culture and identity with an adherence to humanistic values and ideas, offering a nontheistic alternative for Jewish involvement.
