Thanks Uni for sharing the news. I just hope you guys will not cancel now because of the black mamba. Here's what Craig Allenby, the zoo's marketing manager said: “The area was immediately cordoned off, and stayed cordoned off for two days while we hunted, but in vain. We suspect the snake could have slithered into the roof, but we can't get in there because of the angle and the narrow gap.”

There was no need for hysteria, he said, as the black mamba was in all likelihood preparing for hibernation, and was in a constricted area, with little chance of it reaching any member of the public.

“It would have to get through three doors before coming into contact with the public.”
Prof Graham Alexander, a snake expert from Wits, said black mambas were dangerous, although not aggressive.

So PLEASE guys, let's just enjoy the trip!

Just thought I'd shared this news. "The Pretoria zoo's two-metre black mamba has escaped from its enclosure, and staff have been unable to find it" :-D

I really hope I can make this. I'm house-sitting in that week, but it sounds really fun! Will keep an eye out as details unfold.

Hi there, please let us know, how the arrangements will work, do we meet at the Zoo? Time? If it is a person's first meetup, how would we know to look for? More information will be appreciated. thanks Monique

Hey Monique. For any event in our group, the host or organiser for that specific event will send out an email on the day of the event (weekdays) or a few days before (weekends and public holidays) giving their contact details and how/when/where to find the group. As long as your name is on the "Yes" list and you keep an eye on the spam folder (just in case), you will definitely receive an email from Jarrod giving all the relevant information closer to the time.

Monique, I am easy to recognise - long beard, long hair, and a tummy! And probably a big smile!

Hi, I live in Pretoria, so this sound great. What will happen on this day: is this a trip to the zoo or does this maybe have sth to do with reading a book and discussing it at the zoo? (never attended the book club before... ) Goedele
