A few people have asked me about this (where it disappeared to) so I've decided to reinstate it. It's a good burst of exercise and for those of us (such as myself) who are still very much working up to proper hiking, it's challenging enough. For regular hikers of 5km+ trails, this is a 'walk in the park'. It's also early and ends by 11:30-12, for those of us who can't regularly offer up an entire day for hiking.
Nice and outdoorsy, the Walter Sisulu botanical gardens are lovely and fresh air and sunshine is always a bonus. The hike is about 2.5-3km and has a steep incline and decline with some loose gravel/stones (rough on the knees, thighs, capacity to breathe) but as far as hiking goes, it's a good way to ease into it. An easy-going pace. Wear good takkies or shoes for hiking. Bring water, sunscreen and/or a hat.
Please keep in mind that these are the WALTER SISULU botanical gardens in the Roodepoort area. Familiarise yourself with the Google map so you have an idea how far you'll have to travel. A lot of my attendees are often surprised at the distance. If you're not willing to travel to the West Rand and be there by 9:30am latest then skip this.
Here are the entrance fees:
Seniors (60+): R25
University Students (with valid student cards): R25
Children (Age 6 to Grade 12): R12
Under six years: No charge
